Malheur County is one of a few unique Oregon counties with a County Judge who is the chair of the three-person Commission. The County Judge is full-time and the two commissioners are two-fifths time. The County Judge has the authority to preside over probate matters and perform weddings. The Judge is elected for a six-year term, while the Commissioners are elected for a four-year term.
The County Court is not a court of law, and does not preside over trials, sentence defendants or have jurisdiction over the legal community.
