DEPARTMENT: Environmental Health (Vale, OR)
POSITION STATUS: Full Time (37.5/wk Mon-Fri 8:30am to 5pm)
SALARY: $3,682.25 to $4,870.13 a month DOE

JOB DUTIES: The Environmental Health Director develops, directs implements and maintains the inspection process to insure the sanitation of food and public facilities; provides supervision of solid waste matters (landfills and franchises) and prepares documents, applications and reports required to maintain active solid waste permits; and administrates onsite sewage disposal processes and provides permits.
This positions works in cooperation with the Malheur County Health Department in determining investigations and actions necessary to take in the case of a communicable disease outbreak; supervises departmental staff; prepares departmental budget and monitors expenditures; and represents the department before County Court, DEQ, the public, other jurisdictions and professional organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in public or environmental health or related field; and possess a current Oregon Environmental Health Specialist license; and have five years of progressively responsible work experience in the field of environmental health, including two years in a supervisory capacity; or a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training relevant to the position. 10 qtr hrs in course curriculum that includes introductory soils science, soil morphology and either physical geology or geomorphology preferred. The Director must be able to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals including superiors, peers, subordinates, contractors, boards and the public; work independently, organize and plan work; comprehend and follow complex instructions; learn, interpret and implement legal requirements; and determine cost/benefit of various alternatives for long and short term health and safety of environmental related situations.
Finalist for this position must pass a criminal history background check and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. A safe and acceptable driving record must be maintained throughout the course of employment.
