Jail Registered Nurse

DEPARTMENT:                                 Health Department – County Jail (Vale, OR)

POSITION STATUS:                          Full Time (37.5 hrs/wk)

SALARY:                                           $3,353/month

JOB DUTIES: Provide initial health assessment and ongoing health care to inmates; triage patient care and make necessary outside referrals; assess and monitor all drug/alcohol detox patients for medical stability or change in status; assess mental health status of inmates; counsel and provide testing for all STD’s and communicable diseases for patients; ensure all medications, lab tests and health care management care in the best interest of the patient; ensure compliance with State and County regulations and medical standing orders; make certain that Correctional Deputies are compliant with health care policies; review all billing services, orders supplies and stock infirmary.

 

SCREENING REQUIREMENTS: Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon and have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to work independently and without direct supervision; ability to work under stressful and sometimes adverse conditions; ability to use a microscope, computer and basic medical equipment; knowledge of nursing practices in a controlled or jail setting; knowledge of basic medications, safety factors and wound care; experience in client education; STD/HIV education/examinations and trauma assessment.
